Private 12768: Memoir of a Tommy.
JACKSON, John
Category: History
Place/Publisher/Date:
Stroud, Tempus. 2004..
Description:
First edition; 8vo; original cloth boards and dust jacket. Jackson's memoir of his experiences on the Western Front, written in 1926 is published now for the first time. He served continuously from 1915 to the war's end, and saw action at Loos, the Somme and Passchendaele. The work based on a diary he wasn't meant to keep, possesses few literary pretensions, but is marked by acute powers of observation. He writes out of deep loyalty to his country, his regiment and his pals and to the fact that he survived. Fine in fine dust jacket.
