Description:

Six volume set; 8vo; contemporary calf five raised bands, title gilt to the second panel, all edges and end papers marbled. Ink inscription on the front free end paperof volume one from Arthur C James, Master at Eton College to Edward Algernon FitzRoy on leaving the College in 1886. Edward Algernon FitzRoy(1869 – 1943) was a Conservative politician who served as Speaker of the House of Commons from 1928 until his death in 1943.
John Parker MP reported, "Fitzroy once told me that, as a descendant of Nell Gwyn and Charles II, the most embarrassing thing that he had had to do in the House was to announce the abdication of Edward VIII. He found that awkward and embarrassing". A near fine set uniformly faded to the spine.
