First edition (dated 1855); 8vo; contemporary calf, spine elaborately gilt tooled in six compartments, gilt tooled board edges, marbled page edges and endpapers. Ink inscription from Thomas Frederick Halsey (1839 - 1927) to Arthur Duncombe (1840 – 1911), dated 1857 on Duncombe leaving Eton. Both became Conservative MPs. Halsey was also a prominent Freemason and was the first leading Mason to make statement in support of Britain entering the First World War. A near fine copy with a little spotting to the end papers.
