Archive of letters and documents belonging to the family of Henry Noel Brailsford 1873 to 1958. Brailsford was a journalist, political activist and husband of the militant suffragette Jane Brailsford. The archive contains political pamphlets written by Brailsford including "Women and the Labour Party" and "Montrose Burgh's Labour Party" his manifesto, written in November 1918 when he stood as a candidate in the election. There are newspaper cuttings from 1905 referring to his trial (and subsequent conviction) for trying to obtain passports for activists to enter Russia during a time of political revolutionary turmoil (first Russian revolution of 1905). There is his telegram dated June 6 1905 informing his family of the date of his subsequent trial. All the correspondence & ephemera are contained within a secret book box "Stone's Patent Box" for hiding letters or documents in a bookcase. Title added "Private Eyes".
