Limited edition; small folio; original quarter vellum binding; printed on fine laid paper with a Hockinson & Co. watermark. Number 4 of 150 numbered copies signed by the illustrator. Etching frontispiece and 20 full page photogravure plates, all with captioned tissue guards. The twenty monochromes Hyde made for this work "send endless brilliant cloud-forms ......Some are driven by the wind towards abstraction. In such images Hyde opens a path for pastoral vision to engage perspectives of destruction and ruin in the Great War barely fifteen years in the future". (Jerrold Northrop Moore - The Green Fuse). A fine copy, some browning to end papers, wear to the extremities and bookplate of Robin de Beaumont to front pastedown.
