MORGAN, Gwenda

Edition of 300 copies, 31 illustrations. Small folio. This copy is one of 50 (this being number 9) half bound in Oasis leather, top edge gilt, others uncut. Includes folio of eight further blocks, illustrating the variety of Morgans output. The diary was written between 1939 and 1945 and is an accurate account of what it was like to be a land girl. Almost every day is accounted for. The sheer physical labour is brought home when she describes tasks such as pulling thistles up in a drizzle with an old pair of socks on her hands and the repeated rhythmic naming of the cows she milked. It was only after her death in 1991 that the diary came to light. Fine in fine slip case.
