The Arab of Mesopotamia
BELL, Gertrude

Category: First Edition

Place/Publisher/Date:
Basrah, Government Press, [1917].

Description:

First edition; 8vo; original cloth, frontispiece map, 202 pages. The Preface states the volume includes "… essays on subjects relating to Mesopotamia, written during 1916 by persons with special knowledge… many of those whom the fortune of war has brought to these regions would be glad to have the opportunity of obtaining them in a convenient and permanent form." The essay "Asiatic Turkey" is attributed to Bell but it is now considered that the entire volume was written by her. This is a fragile piece of book production and it is rare to find it good condition. The cloth is rubbed at the extremities, the cheap stock is lightly browned throughout, a little spotting to the end papers and some pencilled notes to front pastedown on the rarity of the book, a good copy.
