LAWSON, James Burnett
Category: First World War
Glasgow John Smith & Son Ltd. 1921.
First edition; 8vo., original tartan paper covered boards with paper label and green cloth spine. A memoir of Lieutenant Lawson by his father utilising his sons letters. Lawson entered Glasgow University as a student of medicine in 1914 and gained a commission in 1915 and was posted to France in May 1916 and saw action on the Somme. He returned to the trenches in 1917 with the 2nd Scottish Rifles in June 1917. After a period of sick leave in the Brighton he returned to France for the final time in January 1918. He was wounded near Meharicourt on the 27th March and it would appear died in no mans land that same day, he just applied to return home to take up his medical studies - a request his father learned had been granted. Very good, one plate torn and boards rubbed.
