In 1955–1956, Heyerdahl organized the Norwegian Archaeological Expedition to Easter Island. The expedition included scientific staff and professional archaeologists and they spent several months on Easter Island investigating archaeological sites. Highlights of the project include experiments in the carving, transport and erection of the notable moai, as well as excavations at such prominent sites as Orongo and Poike. The expedition published three volumes of scientific reports. In addition Heyerdahl produced this popular book on the subject, Aku-Aku. A fine copy with a little foxing to the rear endpapers. The dust jacket is very good with a little wear to the extremities and a few short tears. This copy also includes the original Book Society Choice wrap-around band. Scarce signed.
