A printed menu for a dinner held in honour of Johnson by the Rotary Club of Alexandria
Alexandria, Rotary Club of Alexandria. 1930.
A printed 8vo menu for a dinner held in honour of Amy Johnson (1903-1941) by the Rotary Club of Alexandria at the Hotel Casino San Stefano, Alexandria, Egypt, on 31st July 1930, signed ('A. Johnson') to the blank inside front cover by Johnson in bold pencil, also signed by two other unidentified individuals, each in bold pencil. A few months prior to signing the present menu Johnson had achieved worldwide recognition by becoming the first aviatrix to fly solo from England to Australia, 5th - 24th May 1930. Johnson returned home by boat to Egypt from where she was flown to Croydon Aerodrome. A huge crowd greeted her arrival. She was driven through the streets of London in a open topped car, an estimated crowd of a million people lined the parade route. Very good with a heavy horizontal fold to the centre, not affecting the signatures.
