Category: Illustrated
Place/Publisher/Date:
London, The Park Lane Hotel. No Date [1927].
Description:
Original illustrated card covers; 8vo; 76pp, with 24 line drawings. Printed on quality art paper. The hotel opened on Piccadilly in 1927 to designs by architects Adie, Button and Partners, in a grand Art Deco style, and was constructed by the developer Sir Bracewell Smith. The building is now Grade II listed. This publication was produced to mark the opening, although delays in fitting out meant that line drawings were used rather than photographs. "It is the first Hotel in the British Isles to be built with a private bathroom to every bedroom." Two essays, one on the hotel and one on the history of Piccadilly. Also with fine pictorial period advertising by Harrods, Gieves and Harvey Nichols and others. A fine copy with a little creasing to the extremities.
