Armada of the Air
Category: First Edition
New York Lothrop, Lee & Shepard. 1937.
First edition; 8vo; original blue boards and illustrated dust jacket. This work appeared in 1937, and proved prophetic. Set in 1946 Britain, it images a pacifist Prime Minister refusing to commit the country to war, and suffering a devastating aerial bombardment from enemies who subsequently carve up the country. This was the author's only book. Some sources identify him as an American lawyer. However the 1937 Catalog of Copyright accords the copyright to a Norman S. Bentley of Halifax, England. Whoever was the author this is one of the very first alternative histories where Hitler wins the War. It also foreshadows the Battle of Britain. A fine copy, with a little wear to the extremities. In a very good dust jacket, faded to the spine and again some wear to the extremities. Rare in this condition.
