First edition, first issue; 8vo; original ribbed dark blue cloth, covers with raised gilt medallions, spines lettered in gilt, top edges gilt; photogravure frontispieces, plates, two maps loosely inserted in end-pocket of each volume. Numerous full page illustrations by Wilson and others members of the expedition, 12 coloured plates in facsimile from Wilson's sketches. Near fine, ink inscriptions to head of titles, very slight fading to spines and head of vol.2, gilt slightly rubbed.
