Description:
Concert programme; 8vo; original paper wrappers. Inscribed by Britten, to the title page. In bold blue ink the composer has penned two bars of music which he identifies as being from his Cello Symphony. Britten has added an inscription above the quotation and signed his name beneath. The Cello Symphony was performed at the Festival, with Britten conducting Rostropovich. Britten dedicated the work to Rostropovich, who gave the work its premiere in Moscow with the composer and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra on March 12, 1964. Musical quotations signed by Britten are scarce. Fine.
