With the Red Army in Poland and Byelorussia
GROSSMAN, Vassili

Category: History

Place/Publisher/Date:
London, Hutchinson & Co. Ltd. [1945].

Description:

First English edition; 8vo; original boards and dust jacket. Translated from the Russian by Helen Altschuler. Known mainly for his novel 'Life and Fate', Grossman was also one of the first war reporters to chronicle the Nazi extermination camps in Poland and the Ukraine. In this book, Grossman writes directly of the processes of killing in the 'factories of death' that he has heard about, saying that 'I have been told there were over thirty of these death factories in Eastern Poland and Silesia'. A near fine copy, with spine ends lightly bumped. Very good dust jacket, with some chips to the top of the front cover.
