Category: First Edition, Poetry
Place/Publisher/Date:
London, William Heinemann. 1927.
Description: First edition, first impression; 8vo; original beige buckram boards. With pasted in errata slip on contents page. White paper label on spine printed in green. This issue in buckram is not listed in standard Sassoon bibliography by Geoffrey Keynes. This was Sassoon's first volume of poetry, and included bitterly satiric poems about the war and the official attitude to it, especially the attitude of staff officers who were never in the front line. He sent a copy to Sir Douglas Haig, Commander-in-Chief of the British Expeditionary Force in France. Fine, a little wear to the spine label and a little spotting to the foot of the text block and the half title.
