The Bell Jar.
PLATH, Sylvia
Category: First Edition
Place/Publisher/Date:
London, Faber and Faber. 1966.
Description: First edition published under the author's own name; 8vo; original boards and dust jacket. The Bell Jar Plath's only novel, which was originally published under the pseudonym "Victoria Lucas" in 1963. The work is semi-autobiographical with the names of places and people changed. The book charts the protagonist's descent into mental illness paralleling Plath's own experiences with what may have been either bipolar disorder or clinical depression. Plath committed suicide a month after its first publication. Fine in very good dust jacket with some slight rubbing to the foot of the spine and to the foot of the front joint. A nice copy.
