Description: First edition; 8vo; original printed wrappers. A presentation copy signed by the author "To Frank and his Angel" with a 14 line autograph verse on the front free endpaper. The poem is entitled Sonnet on the Death of Brooke: "Begin O guns your giant requiem/Over my lovely friend the fiend hath slain&" Nichols was a poet and friend of Rupert Brooke and Siegfried Sassoon. Educated at Winchester and Oxford, he served with the Royal Artillery but was invalided out with shell-shock after fighting at Loos and on the Somme. One of the sixteen First World War poets commemorated in Westminster Abbey. This is his first book. A fragile production in very good condition, the spine has a tear and there is a stain to upper cover, preserved in cloth drop-back box.
