The Less Deceived.
LARKIN, Philip
Category: First Edition, Signed
Place/Publisher/Date:
Hessle, The Marvell Press. 1955.
Description: First edition; first impression, first state; 8vo; original yellow-green cloth lettered down the spine in gold and original dust jacket of light grey red printed in green and black, with price given as 6s. Ownership inscription of John Saville to the front free end paper. Saville is a Marxist historian and Professor of Economic History at the University of Hull. A friend and colleague of Larkin. The first impression consisted of 700 copies of which 300 were bound. From these 300 bound copies were dispatched to the 120 or so subscribers and the remainder were sold. This copy has the flat spine, the misprint 'floor' for 'sea' in the first line of the poem 'Absences' on p.38 and the list of subscribers on pp 44-45. Fine, with some very light off setting to end papers and the top of the text block being a little dusty. The dust jacket is fine, slightly faded to the spine and a little wear to the top of the spine and to the folds. A very nice copy of a scarce book rarely found in such condition.
