Description: New edition; introduction by the author, 12mo; original cloth boards and dust jacket. Author's presentation copy inscribed "To John [Saville] - my scourge & defender: affectionately Philip." Saville is a Marxist historian and Professor of Economic History at the University of Hull. A friend and colleague of Larkin. First published by the Fortune Press in 1946 this is the first Faber edition. Text incorporates the author's minor revisions to the novel. Very good, a little wear to the head and foot of the spine and some spotting to the top of the text block. The dust jacket is also very good, is faded to the spine, slightly creased and worn to the spine ends.
