Description: Manuscript copy of his War Diary written in the form of letters (probably in the hand of Hulme's father) in ink on leaves from an exercise book, 29 pages as follows, Dec 30 1914 (describing his embarkation in detail), Jan 5 [1915], Jan 12, 13, 14, 15, 27, Feb 10, 20, March 2 and 21. As above but typed copies with the addition of a further 2 pages dated Jan 15 and 2 dated April 19. The second page of the April 19th letter does not appear to have been published. In addition there is a 2 page typed entry headed April 1915, which again does not appear to have been published. A further typed entry dated 13th Sep relating an air raid over central London. T Fisher Unwin, tls, one side, 1 Adelphi Terrace London WC, 28.11.11 to T K White Esq (Hulmes nom de plume) about Hulmes essay on Bergson in the Westminster Gazette. T E Hulme, 8 pages (irregular sizes) of ink and pencil notes and jottings on various subjects including Max Scheler and The Philosophy of Empty Form. Various printed ephemera including the Prospectus of Hulmes lecture The Philosophy of Henri Bergson to be held at 6 Scarsdale Villas Kensington Nov 23 and 30 and Dec 7 and 14[1911]. Edward Marsh, (Churchills Private Secretary and literary friend) als, four p, Vaynol Bangor North Wales, 26 September 1916, to T E Hulme about Epstein being conscripted and his art: I cant imagine they would send a fat middle-aged man into the firing line. Richard Curle, als, four s, c/o Thos Cook & Son Cape Town SA 1.5.17 to T E Hulme; various reminiscences. Jacob Epstein, als (with initials), three pages, 23 Guilford St WC, to T E Hulme about their proposed book which was to be illustrated by Epstein. Epstein, als (with initials), two pages, no place, Thursday, to T E Hulme, referring to our Futurist Friends and to Hulmes calling Epstein a genius and Wyndham Lewis merely intelligent. Margaret Epstein (Jacob Epsteins wife) al, 8 pages 23 Guilford St Holborn 7 September 17[ie three weeks before Hulme was killed], to T E Hulme informing Hulme of Jacob Epsteins enlistment in Col Patternsons Jewish Batallion and acknowledging Hulme's cheque in part payment for his purchase of a number of Epsteins works. Douglas Ainslie, part tls [p2 only], to T E Hulme. Printed Army Form B104, 28 April 1915, certifying that T E Hulme had been wounded in action and was being treated in hospital in Chelsea. Ramiro de Maetzu, tls one side, 25 Maxilla Gardens North Kensington W10 20 April 1918, to Hulme's mother?, a fine and revealing letter of condolence referring to Hulme's genius and Catholicism: 'not in the ritualistic sense but in the spiritual.
