Description: Limited illustrated edition; large 8vo; original quarter vellum and slipcase. 41 wood-engraved plates and illustrations, and a folding map. With Hardy's Max Gate book label to the front paste down, which has been amended in manuscript to read Florence Emily Hardy. One of 325 copies signed by the author. This copy has been additionally inscribed 'To: Florence Emily Hardy, from Thomas Hardy. 22nd October 1926'. Hardy and Florence Dugdale had met in 1905 and in 1906 she began to assist him with research to complete The Dynasts. She took over the running of Max Gate after Emma Hardy died in 1912 and the two married on 10 February 1914. A fine association copy which is in a very good state except for wear and bumps to the corners.
