The Catalogue Raisonne of the Prints of Paul Drury 1903-1987.
DRURY, Paul: Robin Garton
Category: Art
Place/Publisher/Date:
Devizes, Garton & Co. 1992.
Description: Limited first edition; one of five proof copies; 4to; original buckram and illustrated dust jacket. With a wood engraving loosely inserted. The first edition was limited to 50 copies. Drury was one of the Goldsmiths' School of Art Group, which included Sutherland and Tanner. He was at the centre of the revival of the pastoral tradition and a resurgence of interest in Samuel Palmer. The wood-engraving included is particularly important, being one of the very first by any of the Goldsmiths' group that can really be called pastoral. Also inserted two copies of the original prospectus, two others for Garton books and letters between the author and Milner Gray (who penned one of the introductory essays) concerning the publication of the book. Fine in a fine dust jacket.
