Description: Sale catalogue for the Dispersal Sale of the Entire Chartwell Herd of Attested Dairy Shorthorns, the Property of the Rt. Hon. Winston S. Churchill, OM, CH, MP, on Tuesday, November 13, 1951, Auctioneers: John Thornton. 44 pp. Original sown printed wrappers, 8vo. Churchill bought Chartwell Farm in 1947 and his son in law Christopher Soames was installed as farm manager. Around the same time he also bought to other local farms. There seems to have been no clear plan on how to farm the land. The shorthorn cows were acquired with the land but dairy farming only lasted four years at Chartwell. As is well known Churchill's main farming interest was in pigs. Eighty lots are described, including three bulls. Very good upper corners a little creased towards rear with one short split to upper margin of final leaf not affecting text, original sewn printed wrappers with map to rear, some soiling and creasing. A rare piece of Churchilliana with no other copies noted.
